A little brag'n moment~

This weekend I had the pleasure of attending the Arizona Gourd Society Competition Art Show at the Wuertz Farm's 9th Annual Gourd Festival of which my mother entered several of her pieces. Talk about some fabulous artwork. 

First Prize
Open/Intermediate

This is the first time my mother (Betty Powers) has entered one of her pieces into competition, and we were all thrilled when she was awarded first place for her beautiful and exquisite design work.

Second Place

This beautiful gourd purse is also one of mom's prize winners, but she went through most of the show not knowing she had gotten second place until someone congratulated her on both her awards during the event. There were so many beautiful entries, and this little gem was tucked in a corner with it's red ribbon laying on the table below~

My mother has been bugging me to get involved with gourds for a very long time now, and in all the excitement I somehow managed to walk out of that show with a bag of unfinished gourds and some serious wood burning equipment that I haven't a clue how to use!

I guess the art journey continues - wonder where it's headed now~
